Boatrace 2005
McGill rowers put up quite a fight at the 9th annual McGill-Queen's Boat Race held in Kingston, only to lose all three trophies. The D. Lorne Gales Challenge Cup, the Challenge Blade, and the Women’s Challenge Blade, were awarded to the extremely strong Queen's crews.
The Queen’s varsity men, varsity women and novice men’s eight won the 5 km headrace against their McGill rivals. The McGill novice women’s four won their headrace. The Queen’s varsity men won in a time of 15:56, besting McGill by 19 seconds, with the Queen’s varsity women winning by a margin of 17 seconds in a time of 19:07. The Queen’s novice men dominated McGill in a time of 18:23 to McGill’s 18:57.
Not to be out done, McGill captured wins in the 500-meter dash in the varsity men’s and women’s eights and novice women’s four, with Queen’s winning the novice men’s dash.
Queen’s won the Lorne Gales Trophy, emblematic of team supremacy, for the fifth time in nine years with seven points to McGill’s five points. Queen’s varsity women lead the Boat Race standings with six wins to McGill’s three over the past nine years with McGill reversing the tally six wins to three over the Queen’s varsity men.
The Boat Race returns to the Lachine canal for 2006.
