Trophy Case

Lorne Gales Challenge Cup

Lorne Gales Challenge Cup

This magnificent trophy was first awarded to the winning university at the inaugural McGill-Queen’s Challenge Boat Race in 1997. The cup is held in safekeeping at the winning team’s athletic department to highlight and promote the Challenge Boat Race at their university. The trophy was generously donated by Tim Holt, a former MURC oarsman, coach and club organizer, along with long-time Friend of McGill Rowing supporter and alumnus Rob Baxter to the McGill University Rowing Club. It is named after D. Lorne Gales, the founder of the McGill Development Office and a member of the original McGill University Rowing Club, circa 1930.

This trophy is part of the McGill-Queen's Boatrace.
