Queen’s McGill 2012 – Updated Location and Directions!!
On Saturday April 28th 2012, McGill University welcomes Queens University to its waters as we try to bring back home the Lorne Gales Challenge Cup. Similar to the better-known Yale-Harvard and Cambridge-Oxford boat race, McGill-Queens has become an annual event where the respective crews will race down a course in the pursuit of honor. Novice and varsity crews, men and women, will race one after the other first, in a 3 km duel, and then, a quick 500m sprint on the Lachine Canal.
Before the event, McGill is looking forward to hosting our friends from Kingston for a reception Friday at 5:30 for athletes and coaches.
The boatrace will follow the next morning.
Boats will launch every 45 minutes starting at 9hr00. They will row up the course and race 3 kilometers back. Immediately after, they will row down to the sprint start, race 500 meters, and then dock. Only one category can be on the water at the same time therefore once the first race is over and docked, the second will launch.
Tentative Schedule:
9:00 am Novice Women launch
9:20 am Start of the 3k
9:40 am Start of 500m sprint
